Bishop Arts Theatre Center
Our new theater home has come full circle! Constructed in 1917, the building located at 215 South Tyler Street was formerly named the Blue Bird Theater, a silent movie house. Today the newly renovated property is home to TeCo Theatrical Productions, Inc. and several emerging arts organizations. The building includes a 208-seat proscenium theatre with dressing rooms, balcony suites, a box office/concession area, a learning laboratory for arts education programs and a business incubator center for cultural organizations to rent affordable office space. In 2004, TeCo acquired a 10,000 square ft. dilapidated building that we renovated to make our permanent home. With the re-construction of this property, we have expanded our programs and more than doubled the number of people we serve by providing year round performances to a diverse arts community. Our new theater home is minutes from the thriving Bishop Arts District and is appropriately named the Bishop Arts Theater Center, an ecologically friendly facility that bans spray paints, uses non-toxic cleaning agents and fluorescent light bulbs, places recycling bins throughout the venue, substitutes flyers with email messages and networks with other theatre companies to share resources.
