Southern Methodist University - Greer Garson Theatre in Owen Arts Center

Built in 1993, this five story, 50,000 square foot addition is the only theater in the Southwest modeled after the great classical thrust stages incorporating elements found in the Festival Theatre at Stratford, the Tyrone Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and the Chichester Festival Theatre in England., a modified horseshoe shaped design. The theater seats 386. The facility also houses the University's film and video archives in a climate controlled storage screening rooms and office space for University's Southwest Film/Video Archives. The new wing is linked with the Hamon Arts Library. They are designed as twin buildings with a combination of historical design and state of the art theatrical technology. The combination of the two buildings features tall narrow windows, simple pilasters and a curving balcony on the third floor. The façade is embellished by a formal courtyard, with trees, benches and a large fountain.
